Planted on the bustling corner of Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue (Bronx, NY) is Joe’s Pizzeria.
Founded in 1962 by brothers, Joseph and Tony Giacomo, Joe’s Pizzeria was named out of love for their father, Joseph Giacomo Sr.
Escaping Italy’s war-torn area of Salerno during World War II, Joseph Sr. immigrated to New York City with a dream of starting a pizzeria.
Not just any pizzeria, but a pizzeria that would dispense jumbo-sized slices of pizza flavored with the Giacomo family’s secret tomato sauce. Joseph Sr. believed the family’s undeniably tasty sauce would be impossible to replicate-not even by the keenest of tastebuds.
Fulfilling their father’s dream, the Giacomo brothers sold thousands of homemade jumbo-style slices during Joe's Pizzeria’s nearly 50 year existence.
Though Joe’s Pizzeria’s simplistic decor has evolved over the years, the Giacomo family sauce and enormous slice sizes has remained the same.
The Giacomo family takes significant pride in making each pizza pie with the same care and love that was embodied in the pizza debuted at Joe’s Pizzeria grand opening on June 1, 1962.
For years, their larger than life-sized slices have fed Bronxites-local politicians-celebrities-and even the guys in stripes that still light up the house that Ruth built. Come eat and be a part of history!
